Seen Through Horses: Mental Health Awareness Month Fundraiser

Soldiers and First Responders, devoted to a greater good, often overlook their mental well-being while making sure everyone else around them is okay. Trapped in their thoughts and memories, they struggle to be present and lead fulfilling lives. Most often, these wounds are not visible on the outside. Acknowledging this challenge, the Big Red Barn Retreat (BRBR) provides integrated practices, training, and programs, offering alternative treatments at no cost to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders.

Clients at BRBR discover new solutions to life's struggles under the guidance of an EAGALA Military Designated facilitation team. Participants build on their experiences and find solutions for success in both military and civilian life. Horses, as integral members of the treatment team, play a key role in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). Using their unique intuitive qualities and sensitivities, they engage clients experientially. Horses, being herd animals, are highly attuned to others and those suffering from PTSD can really relate. In EAP sessions, horses help clients address fears, frustrations, stress, and relationship problems. With the aid of the skilled treatment team and horses, clients gain critical insights into their thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behavior. This emotionally safe learning environment leads to lasting change, aligning with BRBR's mission to provide a transformative space for our Heroes to thrive in their pursuit of joy, connection, and purpose.

Your donations are greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the life of a Hero!
